The idea was everybody had their own wagon, tent, horse, etc., those things provided for by God (not needing gasoline :)), and we went from city to city as the Lord led, not being a squatter when we arrived, but offering to pay the person whose property the Lord led us to for our time there, in addition we would assign a work crew to do whatever that person asked, be it on their barn, their property, their house, anything, in exchange for our staying there.
While there, we would take care of the land, use our various skills to build thing which we would then sell for whatever money we needed, and all of us would be in Bible Study, hold church services, reach out to the community, teach and be in love with God, and our fellow man in peace and love. When we left, we would assign a team to ensure that the proper was restored completely, and in every way, to the most earnest desires of the person or family who let us stay there. It was a mission of respect, and one recognizing that God had provided us sanctuary in that man's house for the duration, which could be days, weeks or months.
